CoreWeave
It has $104 billion of orders waiting. So why do lenders charge it as if it might not make it?
A landlord for AI.
CoreWeave rents out huge rooms full of Nvidia AI chips to the companies building AI. It began with three friends mining crypto on an office pool table. Today it is one of the fastest-growing companies in the world, and its shares trade in New York.
Customers would come. They did.
CoreWeave’s promise was speed: whoever needs AI computing power gets it here first. Customers believed it. They signed contracts worth $104 billion, to be paid over the next years.

Sales doubled. So did the debt. Then more.
The customers came, exactly as promised. Sales went from $1.9 billion in 2024 to $5.1 billion in 2025, and $4.7 billion in just the first half of 2026.
But a computer room has to be built and filled with chips before anyone can rent it. So CoreWeave spends first and earns later, and it pays for the building with borrowed money.
Sales, building spend and debt, in billions of dollars
The mortgage comes before the rent.
Think of a landlord who signs tenants for years, but buys every building with a mortgage first. The rent arrives slowly. The mortgage payments start at once.
In the second quarter of 2026, the business earned $128 million from running its computer rooms. It paid $640 million in interest. For every dollar it earned from the business, it paid five to its lenders.
April to June 2026: what it earned, and what it paid to borrow
Three more things worry the people who lend it money. Two customers paid 63% of its sales in the first half of 2026, so a lot rests on a few. AI chips age fast, so each one must pay for itself before the next generation arrives. And it plans to spend $35–39 billion more on building this year.
In October, lenders reacted. Its bonds now pay about 15% a year, a price usually asked of companies that might struggle to pay. That is a warning, not a verdict: nothing has been filed, and the CEO told staff the orders more than cover the debts.
An order book is a promise, not a payment.
Our grade: 44 out of 100, CCC: serious weak spots. The business is real and wanted. The way it is paid for is the risk.
Three moves to buy back time.
Stop borrowing at the high price.
Borrow only against contracts that are already signed, where the loan is cheaper, and raise new money from shareholders for the rest.
Show a profit after interest.
Lenders doubt that the rent beats the mortgage. Only numbers will answer them. Build at the pace that the profit allows.
Find more big customers.
No single customer should hold the keys. Aim for no customer above a third of sales within two years.
And one thing to do this month: publish a simple map of where every dollar of building money comes from, and when each loan is due. Let the numbers calm the market.
An order book is a promise, not a payment.
CoreWeave sold the future in advance. Now it has to stay standing long enough to deliver it.
Every number traceable.
